NOTES:
In the last name index, the Russian feminine surnames are given in the masculine form, ie. Romanov instead of Romanova, Apraxin, instead of Apraxina etc.
Beginning with Emperor Peter III, the official name of
the Russian Imperial Family was Holstein-Gottorp-Romanov. Only the name Romanov
will be used here.
Most Romanov descendants born in exile use the surname Romanoff. To avoid
misunderstandings, only the name Romanov will be used here.
Beginning with Christian IX, the official name of the Danish Royal Family changed from Holstein-Oldenburg to Holstein-Glücksburg. Here, however, only the traditional family name Oldenburg will be used for the Danish and Greek Royal Families. The Norwegian ruling Royal House also belongs to the Oldenburg-Glücksburg line, but, traditionally again, the family name Gücksburg will be used.
The ruling noble house of Baden has its origins in the old Family of Zähringen. For reasons of simplification, the family name Baden will be used in the records.
